Coolest current project:
We are implementing a mobile app to help our public assistance participants upload supporting documentation for their assistance applications or their periodic reporting requirements. The mobile application will enable the cameras on smartphones to function as scanners, so users will be able to upload images of documents by taking pictures of them. Participants can then link up their captured documents to their case through a QR Code provided online.
Boldest IT prediction:
I predict that the BYOD movement will result in county-issued portable devices (i.e., tablets) being supplanted as the primary method for remotely accessing resources for all management personnel. This could help change the cost distribution structure for portable equipment, thus reducing county budgets and establishing the tablet as a true business necessity that could be potentially self-funded going forward.
