What characteristic is most important to you in an IT hire?
Aptitude. Although qualities such as fit and teamwork are critical, they don't do much good unless you have the ability to do the job.
How do you make sure your most talented workers stay put?
It's not enough to challenge people with projects that help meet the company's goals. Our best talent will only stay if these challenges help them meet their personal goals. My staff develops five-year plans that identify the skills, experiences and projects they need to continue moving their careers forward.
What's your boldest IT prediction?
IT organizations in most industries will become cost-efficient, agile utilities, providing capacity on demand for infrastructure and a self-service platform that allows business units to manage their application services directly.
