- I practice the 'teach one how to fish' approach. A team member came to me recently, frustrated about an initiative he was working on. I helped him think through the problems, prompting him to also think of some solutions. Our discussion helped him see problem-solving in a new way.
- How do you make sure your most talented workers stay put?
- I think that challenging assignments are key to employee retention. I will often rotate my high-performers to different areas of responsibility to keep them energized and bring a fresh perspective to new areas. This helps develop bench strength within the organization and also grows the individual's toolset.
