SRA International Inc.

Fairfax, Va. [South Atlantic]

Why you want to work there

This IT services company in Fairfax, Va., looks at the big picture when it comes to its employees. Recognizing that most of its employees weren't knowledgeable about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the company launched the CPR Anytime program in 2009. A take-home kit that included a training DVD and mini resuscitation dummy was distributed to all employees at no charge. Now approximately 2,200 SRA employees have been educated in CPR. Healthy staffers: The company's Health Advocacy team comprises three nurse care managers, a program assistant, a parent advocate and a wellness coordinator, who ensure that each person has the right resources at the right time to enhance wellness and reduce the impact of illness. The team works with the employee, family members, supervisors and providers to identify gaps in care as well as personal and workplace challenges, and helps to set and support care goals and access to benefits. SRA has three corporate-level bonus programs that reward outstanding achievement. Get walking: The company sponsored an eight-week, "10k Steps a Day" walking program in which pedometers were provided free of charge to all participants who recorded their progress in an online tracking tool. Nearly 1,400 employees participated and received a weekly electronic newsletter, along with group and individual prizes that included iPod Nanos, Wii consoles and Wii Fit systems. Prior to the start of the program, 49% of participants were active three or more days per week. After the program, 85% reported being active three or more days per week. This fitness program will continue in 2010 with more incentives and higher-quality pedometers and will expand to include family members.
