Comerica Bank

Dallas [South Central]

Why you want to work there

IT employees at this Dallas-based bank holding company, which has about 460 branches, can play activities director, too. A special committee made up of volunteer employees hosts a variety of events throughout the year for IT colleagues. Some examples of 2009 events included a chili cook-off, an Earth Day celebration, an ice cream social, a Halloween party, the "Comerica Idol" competition, holiday gift-wrapping, thank-you notes to colleagues via the sale of candy and flowers, casual days and a Comerica logo items sale. Many of these activities generated money that was donated to charities and helped fund the department's annual holiday party. Other benefits include an on-site massage therapist and dry-cleaning services, plus access to programs that focus on stress management, self empowerment, time management, financial management and change management. New this year: The IT wellness committee is a group of volunteers whose primary goal is to develop the overall well-being of their colleagues. They facilitate programs that support this initiative through speakers and activities. Events in 2009 included the Walk@Lunch program, a wellness expo, a pandemic preparedness program, chiropractic care, a breast cancer awareness program, a diabetics presentation, a healthy cooking demo and a Weight Watchers at Work program. The annual Excellence Bonus Award program is funded at the corporate level and is based on Comerica's financial performance.
