Partners HealthCare System Inc.

Boston [New England]

Why you want to work there

Through the technologies they develop and support, IT employees at this Boston-based company have a positive impact on the patients at the hospitals Partners operates. That commitment to helping others doesn't end there: Since 1994, the IT team has held an annual food drive to aid a Boston homeless shelter that provides emergency and transitional housing and food to more than 1,300 men, women and children daily. A volunteer IT green team, formed in spring 2009, implemented a cell phone recycling initiative and a toner recycling program and ran an awareness campaign that has resulted in a 20% drop in paper cup use. The IT department also hosts five blood drives per year through Massachusetts General Hospital. Each drive averages about 35 pints of blood, which means IT employees have donated about 175 pints every year for the past 15 years. New this year: The Cash Balance Retirement Plan, fully funded by the company, establishes an account for eligible employees that is credited with an amount based on age, annual pay and length of service. Annual contributions range from 3.5% to 11% of pay. The account will also grow in value through interest credits guaranteed to be at least 5% annually. Employees will be vested in the full value of their account if they complete at least 1,000 hours in each of three calendar years without a break in service.
