Why you want to work there
For the past two years, this insurance company, based in Northbrook, Ill., has sponsored a companywide wellness program called Well & Fit, through which employees (including the CEO) participate in campus walks or runs and take advantage of free resources that promote overall health and well-being, such as on-site health screenings. The company also partners with the Mayo Clinic and Weight Watchers to help employees improve their diet and exercise regimens. On-site cafeterias provide Weight Watchers points and detailed nutritional information for items offered. IT teams participate in volunteer activities on company time to help those in need and revitalize neighborhoods. Last year, employees and agencies together contributed more than $5 million to community organizations through the Employee Giving Campaign, with the company providing an additional $1 million in matching funds. And in conjunction with The King Center, Allstate last year launched the Beyond February Give Back Day to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision by inspiring people to donate time to worthy causes in their communities. An internal portal called VolunteerMatch helps employees find and register for volunteer opportunities. IT employees have the option of working flexible hours or compressed workweeks; they can also take advantage of job-sharing and part-time work opportunities. Moreover, employees are encouraged to work remotely whenever possible. A dedicated support team provides equipment to ensure that home offices are as ergonomically sound and comfortable as those on campus. On-site amenities include gyms and convenience stores, plus spa, dry-cleaning and auto repair services
