HCL Technologies (HCL) a multi-year contract to upgrade and manage its entire technology infrastructure, replacing existing contracts with multiple suppliers.

HCL said the deal would consolidate Fonterra’s technology suppliers and bring together its IT infrastructure services under one umbrella.

Fonterra CIO Piers Shore said the company expected to make significant savings in its IT spend over the next five years as a result of the consolidation.

HCL said that, as a result of the deal, it would add three new offices in New Zealand and add approximately 60 jobs in the Waikato region to provide local support services for Fonterra employees from its Hamilton delivery centre, and would be partnering with regional companies and tertiary education groups to develop the local expertise to fill these roles over coming years.

HCL Technologies’ executive vice president and country manager for Australia & New Zealand, Michael Horton, said HCL had been providing services to Fonterra for more than a decade, managing its IT application support and maintenance portfolio including SAP.

Shore said the contract with HCL would enable Fonterra to make major improvements in employees’ end-user experience of its IT systems and would provide the digital foundation to the company’s transformation initiatives.

“Fonterra employees have said there is room for us to improve the tools and technologies we use on a daily basis at work,” he said.

“Additionally, this partnership will enable us to improve our cyber security framework and strengthen our critical IT foundation.”
