Cloud, networking, security and project management skills are all expected to see high demand in Australia during the first half of 2020.

Recruitment firm Hays has released its repot canvassing those areas where it expects to see significant demand in the period from January to June 2020.

The Hays Jobs Report warns of a “massive talent gap in 2020” and said that “skill shortages will continue to plague IT,” in part due to a mismatch of the skills sought by employers and those possessed by jobseekers.

The company said that “Cloud experience, certification and microservices experience is desirable, as are Engineers with strong API development experience.”

On the cloud front, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure are still the most commonly used platforms, although Google Cloud Platform is increasing in popularity, Hays said.

Data science skills remain of keen interest to many employers, according to the report, including experience with SQL, R, Python and data visualisation tools.

The most sought after digital skills are:

  1. Full stack software engineers
