New online electoral services launched

An online enrolment website has been launched which will allow Australians to enrol to vote online.

Around 10 per cent (1.4 million) of Australian citizens are missing from the electoral role, according to Special Minister of State Mark Dreyfus, with half a million of those missing voters aged 18 to 24.

“The biggest challenge is our newest and youngest voters, with only one in two 18-year-olds and two in three 19-year-olds on the roll, a rate much lower than the national participation rate of 91.2 per cent,” Dreyfus said.

The website has been optimised for tablets and mobile devices, with personal signatures created using a stylus, a mouse or a finger.

Users are also able to change their address or update their details via the Australian Electoral Commission website.
