Australian Computer Society finds new CEO from internal ranks

ACS chief operations officer, Andrew Johnson, has been promoted to CEO, two months after former CEO, Alan Patterson, resigned.

Patterson quit the organisation in October 2014. He had held the CEO role since May 2011.

ACS CFO, Kim Finch, has been serving as interim CEO until a replacement was found. She will remain in the CEO role until 31 December. Johnson officially starts his new role on January 1, 2015.

When asked if the society will appoint a new COO, an ACS spokesman told Computerworld Australia that Johnson will look at the society’s operational requirements in 2015.

“We’ll have further information on that then,” said the spokesman.

Johnson joined the ACS in October 2011 as general manager for strategic initiatives and was appointed COO in March 2013.

According to the ACS, he has improved member engagement, particularly among professional partners.

“It’s a great honour to be able to lead an organisation like the ACS,” said Johnson in a statement.

“With the incredible growth of the digital economy, the ACS will continue to be a trusted source of knowledge for the Australian ICT sector. That we can do this is a testament to our staff, volunteers and members. I look forward to working with them all in the coming years to keep up the great work done so far”.
