The number of advertised job vacancies for IT workers has increased in the North of England and Scotland in the second quarter of 2013, whilst the London and South East markets have contracted.
According to specialist recruiter Robert Walters’ latest European Job Index, which measures changes to the number of advertisements posted to key job boards across Europe, there are significant variations in vacancies across the country.
In the North West and North East of England, the volume of advertised vacancies increased by 9.2 percent and Scotland saw an increase of some 11.6 percent. However, the picture isn’t as rosy down south, where the number of vacancies in London and the South East contracted by 1.6 percent.
The Midlands also saw its market contract by 0.5 percent.
Across all regions, however, the volume of advertised UK technology jobs increased by 1.6 percent in the second quarter.
“Professionals with experience of e-commerce and are driving much of this activity, and we are also seeing increased demand for infrastructure developers,” said Tim Gilbert, Director of Technology Recruitment at Robert Walters.
“Employers in the financial services sector are particularly interested in IT experts with a track record of effecting change management as scrutiny from the regulatory agencies increases.”
Robert Walters also found that the rise in UK technology jobs increased above those in France, which experienced a five percent drop in advertised job numbers, and Germany, where the fall was recorded at three percent.
