Societe Generale replaces business intelligence systems

Societe Generaleis installing a new business intelligence platform from MicroStrategy.

The bank, which last month said its first half profits plummeted 80 percent year-on-year, is replacing a number of existing reporting systems with the MicroStrategy 9 platform. It is attempting to simplify and standardise management information and slash costs.

The deployment centres on Societe Generale’s headquarters in Paris, and will connect data from the systems of over 20,000 users. The new BI implementation will enhance enterprise reporting, analytics, and promises to provide both dashboard displays for management and on-the-spot answers to queries.

The move to the new system, which began in June, follows a year long assessment in which Societe Generale reviewed its existing “decision support” systems including sales, financial, marketing and risk analysis. It then assessed a number of alternative BI systems.

Jean-Louis Tribut, decision support manager at the bank, said the assessment of systems included “functional workshops and report and dashboard prototypes”.

A month ago, Societe Generale announced it was creating a global shared services centre in an attempt to cut costs further. The Global Technologies and Services division, based in France, will cater for 160,000 workstations, 25,000 servers, 200,000 telephones and all the corresponding data networks and services across the company.
