The explosion in data in recent years has led to a boom in demand for workers who understand it. At the heart of every business operation, there is data, and drawing meaning from this data is helping companies forge a competitive edge.

Research firm IDC predicts data analytics spending will reach $48.6 billion (£35.9 billion) in 2019, with tech giants such as Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, SAP, EMC, HP and Dell continuing to bet big on big data.

The average salary for a data analyst in the UK is £40,000 (and growing 6.6% year on year), making it an attractive career route.

LinkedIn Learning offers individual training or courses for entire teams/companies.

If you sign up for a year, it'll cost you £19.79 a month gaining you access to over 13,000 courses, offline viewing and access to LinkedIn's careers content.

Data Analysis and Presentation Skills: the PwC Approach Specialization

This online course from Price Waterhouse-Cooper covers five modules that include data-driven business decisions, using advanced Excel data tools to discover insights, and then presenting these in an intuitive way. It's far more business than technically focused than some of the other courses on this list.

The course requires a commitment of three to four hours per week over 21 weeks, and it culminates in the creation of a project, which you must complete to gain accreditation.

MicroMasters® Program in Marketing Analytics

MicroMasters® Program in Marketing Analytics

This is a specialised online course, focusing on marketing data analytics. Offered by the University of California, Berkeley, it covers four courses for $896.40 (£691.95).

The course's main premise is teaching analytics-based marketing and concepts to improve business decisions and return on marketing investments.

The courses are billed as 'introductory to intermediate' level.

DataCamp

DataCamp

Working on a monthly subscription basis, DataCamp offers some great online data analytics courses for programming languages R and Python, plus lots of other courses for various areas of IT.

If you're looking to keep costs low, this online course provider does provide a free subscription as long as you don't exceed nine courses per month.

This is more than enough for those of you just looking for data analytics courses, plus if you run a small business and want to open it up to all staff members, it still should be plenty.

In partnership with cloud computing firms Talend, Looker and WhereScape, Snowflake Computing launched a 'Cloud Analytics Academy', offering a cloud data analytics course which is online and certified.

Aimed at IT pros, business leaders and business intelligence professionals, this course offers three 'tracks': Executive Fast Track, Cloud Foundation Track and Modern Data Analytics Track.

This course is free and once complete, you'll receive an Academy Master certification.

You can get access to all of the online courses on Pluralsight for $29 (£21) per month, or $299 (£214) for the year.

There are lots of data analytics courses specific to certain tools, such as Adobe or Azure, but for a general overview, we like Data Analytics: Hands On.

This online course covers the fundamentals of data analytics, and includes demos for students to put the theory into practice.

Aimed at beginners, this course requires no previous knowledge and provides over five hours of video content.
