Pilot fish works for a manufacturing company as a system integrator, and he figures that's why he's being cc'd on this email chain.

"Presumably the sender -- a quality technician -- added me, thinking there might be an issue with our ERP system and how it reported inventory," fish says.

"The original email, from one of our inside sales people, was soliciting help from our quality department to look at material that was on hold and determine if it could be sold or not. She was requesting that, if it was not salable, someone should indicate its disposition as such.

"Today, the quality technician responded by saying that the material had been scrapped -- last July. He also asked why the question was posed to begin with.

"The sales person's response: 'Well, probably because my email was from last July.'

"Sure enough, he was responding to an 11-month-old email. I guess he's been busy."
