See the cool laptops and 2-in-1s introduced at IFA

An impressive array of 2-and-1s and laptops were shown at this year's IFA show in Berlin. A common thread was innovation; devices with boom-or-bust features stood out. Sleeker laptops and 2-in-1s used Intel's latest Kaby Lake chips, which were launched just ahead of the show. Feast your eyes on our selection of IFA's best PCs.

Acer\'s Predator 21 X

Acer's Predator 21 X laptop has a curved screen

Acer's Predator 21 X is a dream laptop for gamers. It has a 21-inch curved screen (that's correct!), with a resolution of 2560 x 1080 pixels. It also features eye-tracking technology, which should make it easier to track and hit targets in games. It also uses Intel's Kaby Lake chip and can be configured with Nvidia's latest GeForce GTX 1080 chip. This is more of a desktop constructed like a laptop, and we love it. It'll ship early next year. A price wasn't available, but it may cost a small fortune.

Yoga Book virtual keyboard

Lenovo's Yoga Book has a virtual keyboard

Lenovo's Yoga Book 2-in-1 challenges the notion that laptop users need hard keyboards. The innovative Yoga Book 2-in-1 replaces the keyboard with a touch panel that turns into virtual keyboard and mouse pad, a draw pad, or a digital notepad. Lenovo wants to bring a similar tablet-style typing experience to an upcoming Chromebook and to Yoga Book products. But will people bite? The 2-in-1 has a full HD 10.1-inch touchscreen, 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and Intel's Atom processor code-named Cherry Trail. Prices will start at $499 for the Android model and $549 for the Windows 10 model.

Chromebook designs are bound to change with the ability now to run Android apps. Acer's Chromebook R 13 is one such device -- it can be a laptop or a tablet. When in tablet mode, the Chromebook is well-suited to Android apps downloaded from the Google Play Store. Expect more companies to follow Acer's lead in introducing 2-in-1 Chromebooks that are friendly to Android apps. The Chromebook has Mediatek's quad-core processor, and prices will start at $399.

Asus\' Zenbook 3

Asus' thin ZenBook 3

Asus' product launch events are usually spectacles, but the press event at IFA was mellow. The company shared additional details about products originally launched at the Computex trade show in late May. One such product was the ZenBook 3 laptop, which stands out for its slick design. It is 11.9 millimeters thick, and weighs just 910 grams. It features a 12.5-inch screen, Intel's Kaby Lake chip, up to 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. Pricing or availability dates weren't immediately provided.

Yoga 910

Lenovo's Yoga 910 is Windows Hello friendly

Lenovo's Yoga 910 is a workhorse 2-in-1 that can be a laptop or tablet. It can be configured to a fully loaded PC, with a 4K screen and Intel's Core i7 Kaby Lake chip. The 13.9-inch laptop is super thin, and designed for Windows Hello with biometric login features. Lenovo is estimating a 15.5-hour battery life for the 2-in-1, which may be a little rich considering devices this size struggle to even reach 10 hours on a charge. The Yoga 910 will ship starting in October starting at more than $1,500, so save up.

Acer\'s Spin 7 hybrid

Acer's Spin 2-in-1s

If you're looking for a budget laptop that can also be a tablet, consider Acer's new line of Spin 2-in-1s, which start at $250. The $250 Spin 1 has an 11.6-inch display, an Intel Celeron or Pentium processor, and up to 8GB of RAM. Storage options include up to 1TB of hard drive or 64GB of flash storage. The most expensive is the thin-and-light Spin 7, which will start at $1,199 in the U.S. The device has a 14-inch screen, an HD camera with HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging support, Kaby Lake chips, up to 256GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM. It also has two USB 3.1 Type-C ports.

Acer\'s Swift 7

Acer's sleek Swift 7

Acer's Swift 7 is one of the thinnest laptops at 9.98 millimeters thick, and it packs some new features. It has a 13.3-inch full HD screen, and can be configured with Intel's Kaby Lake chips, dual 802.11ac Wi-Fi, up to 256GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM. It is a featherweight at 1.13 kilograms and will ship next month starting at $999. Acer also announced other Swift 2-in-1s with smaller screen sizes priced starting $249.
