R Consortium of major tech companies on the way?

Rumor on Twitter is that some major players will join forces to work on R infrastructure

There was some interesting chatter on Twitter today before the annual international useR! conference kicks off tomorrow in Denmark: One tweet about an R Consortium that will include heavy hitters like Google, Microsoft and Oracle working together on R infrastructure. The tweet came from a data scientist in Qatar.

When asked for details, that data scientist said he shouldn't have mentioned the Consortium and deleted his tweet.

"More on this coming very soon. Hold tight," tweeted David Smith at Revolution Analytics, the enterprise R company recently acquired by Microsoft, in response to questions about the Consortium.
