Great Plains buys two more software firms

Great Plains Software Inc., a Fargo, N.D., business applications vendor that has been on an acquisition spree in recent months this week announced deals to buy two more companies.

Great Plains said it's acquiring privately held FRx Software Corp., a Denver-based maker of financial reporting applications, for $66 million worth of stock. FRx will become a subsidiary of Great Plains, which has resold the financial reporting software since 1994.

In the other deal, Great Plains plans to pay $36.4 million in cash and stock to acquire PWA Group Ltd., a U.K.-based vendor of human resources and payroll software.

All three companies target their applications at midsize users. The new deals follow on the heels of two other acquisitions Great Plains announced last month (see story).
