Ford Motor Co. said it plans to have auto exchange Covisint LLC develop and host the next generation of its Ford Supplier Network (FSN).
FSN, which Ford founded in 1998, supports more than 4,200 suppliers and does business with more than 42,000 end users worldwide. Ford, along with DaimlerChrysler AG and General Motors Corp., founded Southfield, Mich.-based Covisint early last year.
Ford said yesterday in a statement that the new version of FSN will be operational in February and will feature access to Ford- and Covisint-specific applications, including supply chain management, through a portal. The portal will include a consolidated directory that allows suppliers to update their profiles online, enabling that information to be automatically shared with manufacturers, Ford said.
The supplier portal will also support multiple languages, helping to improve global collaboration between Ford and its suppliers, the company said.
