  • Sun Microsystems Inc. today plans to introduce a four-socket midrange server based on its UltraSparc T2 Plus processor. The Sparc Enterprise T5440 supports up to 32 processor cores and is priced from $44,995.
  • Oracle Corp. agreed to purchase Primavera Systems Inc., a maker of project portfolio management software, for an undisclosed sum. Primavera will be part of a new Oracle business unit headed by Primavera CEO Joel Koppelman.
  • Symantec Corp. has agreed to pay $695 million to buy MessageLabs Ltd., a U.K. provider of hosted filtering services for spam and Web traffic. The offering will be added to Symantec's Protection Network of hosted backup, data restoration and remote access services.
  • Teradata Corp. today is set to unveil Version 13 of its namesake decision-support database, along with a data warehousing appliance that company officials said can handle up to 50 petabytes of data.
