Computerworld's 100 Best Places to Work in IT

Senior software engineer Lonesha Akaaba has found a professional home at the nonprofit OCLC Online Computer Library Center in Dublin, Ohio. "The biggest reason I came here is because they let you stretch your programming legs. You're free to research different ways to accomplish whatever the task is," she says.

Like some of her colleagues, Akaaba says she also values the organization's work/life balance programs and good benefits. But they also say that what makes their IT department really shine is the chance to focus on technology.

Phil Norman, director of end-user and delivery services development, says the constant stream of new challenges keeps the IT staff engaged. He points out that there's also an innovation lab, where developers have an opportunity to work on projects outside their regular activities.

"Challenge is definitely something that's here. It's invigorating," says technical director Kannan Seshadri. "I can keep bragging about the work I do all day long."
