Sun releases new servers and workstations

It says the Netra blade servers provide 20% performance improvement

Sun Microsystems Inc. today announced new additions to its server and workstation offerings, including upgrades in its Sun Fire and Sun Ultra lines.

The company debuted its new Netra blade servers and claimed that its Sun Fire workgroup servers offer a performance improvement of nearly 20%. The Sun Fire servers use Sun's UltraSparc IIIi processors and Solaris operating system.

Sun said its new Ultra 25 Workstation offers a 300% increase in performance. It comes with Solaris 10, Sun Studio, Sun Java Studio Creator and Sun Java Studio Enterprise.

The company also said its Sun Fire T1000 system offers 23% higher availability and up to 300% higher performance for disk operations.

Sun said it will also soon announce new Sun Fire systems based on the Rev F version of Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Opteron processor.
