Digital Photo Wallet

The honest truth is that Brookstone's Digital Photo Wallet is more appropriate for the end of summer than summer itself. But this device -- the ultimate small screen LCD -- is one of the coolest gadgets we've come across in months.

For $59, you get a simulated leather wallet with a billfold and room for credit cards (available in men's and women's styles), but the clincher is a 1.4-in. LCD display that stores more than 50 photographs. The display is removable and rechargeable and syncs easily with a PC via USB connection. The Digital Photo Wallet also has an on/off button as well as scroll controls.

Garmin Edge 305 GPS Device (for Cycling)

Garmin is well known in the GPS space for manufacturing clever, reliable, high-quality directional devices. The $380 Edge 305, a cycle computer with built-in GPS tech, embodies the company's emphasis on high design.

Lightweight and easy to install -- you just snap it on to any standard bicycle -- the Edge 305 automatically measures the standard data that all cycle computers record, such as miles per hour, distance, time and calories burned.

Where this magical device separates from the pack is its ability to measure location, altitude and climbing/descent rates. As an added bonus, if you ride the same roads over and over again, the 305 will allow you to race against your previous best time.

Garmin Rino 110 GPS Device (for Hiking) Whether you're the rugged or not-so-rugged outdoor type, Garmin's Rino 110 ($195) is a perfect electronic summer accessory. This waterproof device combines two-way radio with GPS location-finding technology to help you stay in close contact with friends and family in the great outdoors.

The Rino is handy for everyday use as well as emergencies, because it can transmit an exact location to other Rino users within its two- to five-mile range. Best of all, this is a standard FRS/GMRS radio, which means that you can use it to communicate with most other radio-based walkie-talkies.

The Rino 110 is Garmin's entry-level GPS outdoor device. Other Rino models offer more features and can transmit as far as 14 miles.

Light Wave Surfboard

The only thing that's better than surfing all day during summer is surfing at night. The crowds are gone, and the waves seem much bigger and faster. There's only one problem with night surfing -- it's dark! Or, at least it used to be.

The new $2,950 Light Wave surfboard from Santa Cruz Light Wells sports headlights, rail lights and even fin lights. It also performs what the company calls "graphics," basically a light show that's activated by extreme turns.

To make sure the lights don't burn out before you're done, they're conserved until you need them. You can program the headlights to stay on for 10 to 45 seconds -- long enough to see approaching waves, then drop in and ride them. A dimmer switch lets you control intensity.

The Light Wave comes in five radical sizes, from 5 feet 11 in. to 6 feet 2 in.
