Leopard's default file system isn't prone to hard drive directory corruption, but it's still a good idea to verify or examine the drive with Disk Utility periodically. Select the drive from the list box on the left, click the First Aid tab, and click the Verify Disk button. If the disk needs repair, click Repair Disk.
While you're here, check the SMART status in the lower-right corner; it should say "Verified." If it says "About to Fail" or "Failed," immediately back up all data, and replace the drive.
