Visual tour: Android 3.0 'Honeycomb' has landed

Is there an Android tablet in your future?

Google is expected to unveil its vision for Android 3.0 Honeycomb at a Wednesday event in Mountain View, Calif., and Matias Duarte, Android 3.0's top designer, promised big things, saying it will be driven by gestures without hardware or even soft buttons. Computerworld blogger JR Raphael, who will be at the event, said he expects a Motorola Mobility Xoom tablet running Android 3.0 to be demonstrated. Another possibility: a demo of Android 3.0 on a smartphone.

Android 3.0 promises to fuel some compelling rivals to Apple's market-leading iPad. Is there an Android tablet in your future?

Designed for tablets and beyond

Google says Android 3.0 is "specifically optimized for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets." It said it offers a new, "truly virtual and 'holographic' " UI design, and what it calls "an elegant, content-focused interaction model." Shown here: the new home screen.
