The evolution of hard disk drives

From 1979 through today

From 1979 through today: Six hard drives beginning with an 8-in. model, followed by 5.25-in., 3.5-in., 2.5-in., 1.8-in. and 1-in. disks, partially disassembled to show platters and read-write heads.

As read/write heads were able to move closer to platters, bit densities increased.
