Seeking a great Linux text editor. Suggestions?

I'm experimenting with desktop Linux (SuSE), and am looking for a robust text/html editor to stand in for the NoteTab Pro I use on Windows. I'm seeking:

* Good text manipulation - things like changing text case, joining lines, stripping html

* Programmable macros

* One-click html tagging for things like bolding, centering and adding links

* Straight ASCII text only (leaving out the OpenOffice word processor)

* Editing functions such as spell check

So far I've tried out Kate, Bluefish and ActiveState's Komodo Edit. Together, they've got most of what I'm looking for, but I'd prefer not to have to cut and paste from one app to another in order to get both capable macros and decent editing functions. (I do have NoteTab Lite up and running using Crossover Linux, but it's a bit flaky).  Any suggestions?

Update: see my conclusions in the article Linux text editors: Do any make the grade?
