Conveniently, you can select multiple photos while in the gallery, batch shrink them and then share via your usual choices. ImageShrink is also an option within the default Android email application after selecting attach file and choosing picture.

After your resized image is sent, that temporary file is removed, saving storage space on your device.

Bottom line: If you want to reduce your image file sizes before sending them from an Android device, ImageShrink is worth installing.

Rick Steves Audio Europe

Type: Podcast-like app

Price: Free

OS reviewed: iOS

Also available on: Android

Rick Steves is well known among a subset of Americans who enjoy travel to Europe. In addition to his tour books and tours, he has a free audio app that serves almost like a custom podcast player. Once you install the app, you can then download any of several dozen audio files with information about a particular destination or attraction. Some, but not all, of the audio guides also include links to free maps and walking-tour text scripts, but be advised these aren't within the app and require a browser and Internet connection to view (although you can save for later viewing with an app like Instapaper).

Bottom line: This app is audio only -- no images, no points on an interactive map -- but can be handy to listen to either on the plane or while taking a self-guided walking tour. Content is also available in podcast format.
