Verizon Galaxy Nexus LTE release date rumor: Nov 29

Let's look at the latest rumors 'round the Verizon Wireless Galaxy Nexus LTE release date. While JR is no doubt recovering from severe turkey-excess, we'll see if we can shed some light on this thing...

Artem Russakovskii noticed this "mysterious" Verizon advertisement plastered all over several Android-focused websites, as did Reddit denizen ramenchef...

Verizon Galaxy Nexus ad

Russakovskii has verified that it's not a hoax -- the advertising network is legitimate, as are the sites on which it's displayed. Sadly, following the link in the ad takes you to a Verizon page that, err, doesn't actually mention the Galaxy Nexus.

It's as if the promotion was planned some time ago, before the LTE Galaxy Nexus was delayed, but nobody remembered to pull the ad before they went on vacation. D'oh!

However, embedded in the link is what looks like a date: 111129, or November 29. Could it be that Verizon's LTE Galaxy Nexus will break cover on Tuesday? The ad doesn't use the magic phrase "Black Friday" -- it only refers to "Holiday Deals," so who knows?

Of course, Samsung appears to have confirmed that the phone has been delayed until December, so fandroids shouldn't get their hopes up too high. Perhaps Tuesday is the date when pre-orders start?

And that price is bound to raise some eyebrows. Of course, that's the subsidized cost; there's no note of how much you'll need to be shelling out for 24 months to get that deal. But, judging by Verizon's iPhone 4S offer, it's probably $80/month (for 450 minutes, 2GB of data, and 1,000 messages).

Oh, and you'll probably have to add on a ridiculous "activation fee" of $35. I don't know how Verizon gets away with advertising a $235 purchase as $199.99. It's getting like the airline industry, with all their sneaky, hidden mandatory surcharges (please don't get me started).

UPDATE: Android Central forum denizen, Mac58, allegedly got this piece of good news from Verizon:

I just called a verizon store. ... They confirmed it's the same price and it's available for preorder! ... She said it will be 14 days before phone is released.

That was half an hour ago (9.47am EST). Let's wait for corroboration before we go crazy, shall we?

UPDATE 2: Well, it's four hours later and we now have several more reports of people calling or visiting other Verizon stores. It seems that the consensus is that Mac58 was told the wrong thing. Or s/he was trolling. Or it was all a figment of our collective imaginations.

Anyway, it's proof -- as if proof were needed -- that you can't believe everything you read on the internets. As you were, everyone.
