With that other phone launch out of the way, we can turn our focus now to the big Android news of the month: the debut of Ice Cream Sandwich and the Samsung Nexus Prime.

Google and Samsung are likely going to reveal the next-gen version of Android and its first made-to-order phone at a media event in San Diego next Tuesday. The event, entitled "Samsung Mobile Unpacked," promises to show off "what's new from Android."

We've been hearing about this stuff for ages now, but with the launch likely right around the corner, the details are starting to seep out. Sammy posted this video last night (no small coincidence in timing, I'm sure):

Now, while "Nexus Prime" has become the name of choice in tech circles, we don't actually know that's what the device is going to be called. It could end up being the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Droid Prime, or something altogether different. We'll find out for sure next week.

As for Ice Cream Sandwich, Google has said the new release will build on the interface established with its Android Honeycomb tablet platform. It'll be one OS for phones and tablets alike, bringing -- as Google explains it -- "everything you love about Honeycomb on your tablet to your phone, including the holographic user interface, more multitasking, the new launcher and richer widgets."

I'll be in San Diego for next week's big unveiling. In the meantime, you can get a taste of what's ahead with Ice Cream Sandwich and the new Nexus at the links below.
