Apple release date rumors: iPhone 5, iPad 2 delay?

iPad 2 and iPhone 5 get later release date you say? Nuh-uh, my friends: Apple says iPad 2 announcement still happening March 2, despite the wild rumors. And the whisper is that iPhone 5 is also on-schedule: early-Q3.

iPad and iPhone (Apple)

Rumor has it that the iPhone 5 and iPad 2 release dates have slipped. The delay of a few months is blamed on production and sourcing issues. Some have been repeating the rumors, while others receive what smell like off-the-record Apple denials. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers dissect dire dissertations.

Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment. Not to mention what's wrong with modern pop music...

Kara Swisher swishes her "exclusive" banner:

Apple will hold its much-anticipated event on March 2, where the tech giant seems poised to unveil a new version of its hugely successful iPad. ... Analysts expect the iPad 2 to be thinner than its predecessor and feature an improved display, as well as front-facing camera and Facetime. ... Some reports suggest it will be powered by one of Qualcomm’s multimode chips and will run on both GSM and CDMA-based networks.

It’s not clear when Apple will begin sending out its famous invites for the gathering, but I am guessing soon, in order to get the Apple faithful to the proper level of froth. ... Let the media frenzy begin!

But wait! Weiyi Lim thinks different:

Apple Inc.’s shipments of a new version of its iPad tablet computer may be delayed to June from April because of “production bottlenecks” at manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. ... according to a report by Vincent Chen and Alison Chen, analysts at ... Yuanta Securities Co.

As does Dan Frommer:

iPhone 5 may not launch until September, FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger says in a note today. ... "A July launch is unlikely, with various casing ... and touch suppliers still ramping up, ... some chip vendors not having yet received firm ... orders, and ... the image sensor ... still in flux".

But Jim Dalrymple talked to his buddies in Cupertino:

The fact is, neither rumor is true. ... both products are on schedule and will ship when they are supposed to. Only Apple knows exactly when that will be, but the products are not delayed.

It seems amazing that rumors of Apple missing product deadlines are running rampant when Apple hasn’t even announced the product. ... The only deadlines that have been set are by the media, not Apple.

And Tiernan Ray did similarly:

Sources close to Apple this morning tell me there’s nothing to the rumor ... that Apple’s iPad 2 has been delayed. ... Apple itself has had nothing to say on the matter, declining, as usual, to comment on rumor and speculation.

Jonny Evans first reported the rumor, then the denials:

This morning Apple watchers ... reeled as we considered news that the iPhone 5 may not launch until September ... [and] the iPad 2.0 ... until June. ... I'd warn against taking analyst claims as gospel truth -- though they certainly provide food for thought.

Apple ... has moved to deny reports.

Seth Weintraub sniffs the air:

It is interesting that both of these “late” reports were from investment bankers – ahead of the opening of trading – who could potentially benefit from market manipulation. Something smells fishy.

AAPL started significantly down – over 10 points this morning but has recovered somewhat.

And MG Siegler sits back and watches, fascinated:

More so than any other company, people obsess over little tidbits of information which may be true, may be half true, may be half false, or may be totally made up. ... Speculation is fun, and can even be thought-provoking. But today things got taken to a whole new level.

As anyone who has covered Apple news for any extended period of time will know: you never trust an analyst when it comes to Apple information. Never. ... Their “checks” and “reports” are usually nothing more than complete and utter crap.

And Finally...

This is what's wrong with modern pop music
