Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1: The verdict is in

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

It's not often that writing about technology makes you feel like a romance novel author in disguise. Reviewing Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet this week, though, I definitely started to get that feeling.

In my first impressions of the new Tab, I noted that the device is impossibly svelte. Now, after spending two full days in close seclusion with the gadget, I'm ready to take things a step further. Ahem:

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one sexy little mama.

Seriously -- this thing is slim, light, and with curves to die for. And it's got plenty of power to back up its good looks, too.

To review the Tab 10.1, I took a solid couple of days to use it like it was my own. I loaded the Tab up with my standard set of apps and widgets and watched carefully to see how it handled the pressure. I used it in my office in the morning, outside in the afternoon, and -- of course -- on my couch late at night. Benchmarks and lab tests are fine, but when I'm looking to buy a tablet, I'm interested in seeing how the device performs in the real world -- the way a real Android user would use it. And that's what I've set out to bring you in this very detailed review.

Here's the unfiltered truth: The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is an excellent device with a lot going for it. But it also has a lot of drawbacks, ranging from a lack of ports (USB, HDMI, microSD) to a lack of certainty about how its operating system will look in the future. I think you'll be pretty interested to hear how the Tab's stock Android setup -- well, almost stock Android setup -- will soon evolve.

In short, the Tab 10.1 is a standout Android tablet, but it may not be right for everyone. Join me for an in-depth look at the good, the bad, and the just plain bizarre in my full Galaxy Tab review:
