The IT group at this Philadelphia university has its very own internal training department, in addition to the professional and personal development training offered through the university's HR department. As part of a university environment, employees have special access to music, dance and arts performances and to sporting events. Technology investments are ongoing: The Temple 2020 plan calls for more than $500 million in new facilities by 2020, including a state-of-the-art library that incorporates the latest technology. Full boat The university also offers full tuition remission for employees. Spouses receive half off all tuition, and children pay no tuition for up to 10 semesters of undergraduate education. The university's Performance Development System, which was designed and implemented by the IT group, is the backbone of the employee recognition system. Every employee works with his manager to establish clear goals against which progress can be measured; the goals can be re-evaluated and modified throughout the year. Final reviews have a direct impact on the employee's monetary rewards. In addition to the standard pay rate increases, the university awards bonuses to employees at all levels; lower- and midlevel employees can earn up to $2,500. Senior managers can receive about 5% of salary. Approximately 10% of employees receive these awards annually.
