Why You Want to Work There
Located in Philadelphia, this university boasts the biggest state-of-the-art computer lab and teaching center in the country. But as far as benefits are concerned, its tuition remission program may represent an even bigger value. Employees pay no tuition for all undergraduate and graduate programs, their spouses receive a 50% discount on all tuition, and their children pay no tuition for up to 10 semesters of undergraduate education. The IT group has an internal training department that offers a full range of technical courses. In addition, professional and personal development classes are offered through the university's HR department. Class acts: Employees have special access to events that take place on campus, including sporting events and music and dance performances featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists. The Temple 2020 plan calls for more than $500 million in new facilities, including a state-of-the-art library and a new school of science and technology, to be built by 2020. IT is special: The IT department nominates employees for industry awards and reimburses them for expenses incurred in pursuing those awards. Employees are encouraged to attend outside seminars and participate in internal training programs, and attend or give presentations at professional conferences. Employees who are invited to speak at conferences may spend some time during the workday to prepare their presentations. Temple IT employees generally make 10 to 15 such presentations each year.
