Why You Want to Work There
This for-profit hospital operator in Nashville, the largest in the U.S., is a company focused on giving back. HCA sponsors blood drives, Habitat for Humanity builds and Junior Achievement initiatives. The Caring for the Community campaign offers employees opportunities to volunteer at and support local nonprofit organizations. The cornerstones of this program are Community Days: Two times each year, corporate HCA employees can use company time for a day of charity work. The IT departments across the country also participate in giving back to their communities, with organized food drives and their own Community Days, where employees are given the day off to help out local charities. Eighty-nine percent of corporate employees participate in the giving campaign, and the company matches funds committed by its employees dollar-for-dollar. Last year, it matched over $600,000 worth of employee gifts. The HCA Hope Fund, launched in 2005, is an employee-run, employee-supported charity to help workers and their immediate families who are affected by hardship, such as disasters, extended illness or injury, and other special situations. The Hope Fund has helped more than 9,000 HCA families and given out $9.7 million in aid. Get noticed: Outstanding employee performance is recognized through the STAR Award Program, with gift cards and individual and team recognition at departmental and IT group meetings. Employees are also recognized in the IT newsletter and other communications such as the CIO/leadership blog.
