Why You Want to Work There
The IT department at this health services group actually grew in size in the past 12 months, allowing the Allentown, Pa.-based company to pursue new and expanded telehealth services offered to the community and to other regional community hospitals. Community service is a big part of IT's efforts. While all events are optional, employees are encouraged to participate in activities throughout the year, usually on company time. These initiatives include staffing the local soup kitchen for multiple shifts each month, giving Christmas trees to the local Council of Churches or donating school backpacks stuffed with school supplies to disadvantaged children in the community. A "pay-to-play casual Fridays" program, where employees can pay $3 to wear jeans to work, has raised money for local charities. Salary augmentation: The company offers merit-based pay increases, project bonuses and gift cards. Training is coordinated by an education committee whose members represent all areas within IT. This group meets monthly to develop departmentwide training programs, assess skills and development activities, and support a training request clearinghouse. The IT department provides education sessions two to four times monthly on a variety of topics.
