Marriott International Inc.
Bethesda, Md. [South Atlantic]
Why You Want to Work There
Employees at this Bethesda, Md.-based hotelier have the opportunity to work full-time at alternative work sites or split their time between the office and home -- whichever arrangement helps them be the most productive. To promote telecommuting, the lodging company in 2009 held a "Work From Home Day" to encourage staffers to test their ability to work from home and to ensure that they understand how to use the remote-access tools safely and securely no matter where they are. Technology makes it happen: The company set up a secure high-speed remote-access platform called MI-Connector that gives workers access to Marriott network drives, the corporate e-mail system and intranet, and 60-plus business applications. Also included is a second-step password-protected electronic grid called eGrid that validates a user's identity each time he logs in remotely. IT teleworkers have the ability to troubleshoot technology problems, add printers, conduct PC tune-ups and repair, restore or protect software remotely using an online self-service tool called Help Desk Xpress Plus. New this year: The company deployed OnePlace, an intuitive technology suite that's designed to empower employees to work more efficiently, curb information overload and simplify access to people, processes and information no matter where they are. OnePlace includes a tool called TeamShare, Marriott's team and project collaboration tool, which was designed to enable geographically dispersed workgroups to easily exchange information and securely organize, update and access team assets in a central location.
