Scottrade Inc.
St. Louis, [North Central]
Why You Want to Work There
Every IT employee has a voice at this St. Louis-based online brokerage. Each month, the CIO and all IT employees participate in a town hall meeting where they discuss updates on projects, new developments and other topics. At these meetings, IT staffers can openly ask questions and make suggestions, and they gain an understanding of where the company is headed. As the IT department expands and communication becomes increasingly important, IT employees are able to remain connected to the latest changes in their department and the company as a whole through the CIO's monthly blog. Cool new projects: IT staffers have recently built out Scottrade's own data centers and its mobile trading site, which gives customers the freedom to manage accounts and trade online from any Internet-enabled mobile device. Internal training is available to IT staffers through the company's e-learning program, Scottrade University, which offers classes in general business subjects or industry-specific topics. Staffers who wish to pursue training externally, perhaps to work toward a degree or certification, can take advantage of the Scottrade's tuition reimbursement program or attend classes offered by the company's training partners. When IT staffers first arrive at Scottrade, they receive a two-day orientation to the company, then they spend a month on the job and then take part a weeklong IT-specific training program called IT Onboarding. During the week of IT Onboarding, they learn about the financial services industry and gain an understanding of the IT department's role in the company.
