As part of the development process at this chemical firm in Kingsport, Tenn., employees can work in various areas of the organization to build their experiences. From infrastructure to applications, employees are given assignments in different areas to build their knowledge of company processes. Interested employees are also given opportunities outside of IT, in areas such as manufacturing, to enhance their skills. The IT group has its own team site on Eastman's intranet, with a section dedicated to learning and development opportunities. Flexible or alternate work arrangements include standard workweeks compressed into fewer than five eight-hour days. Many employees choose to work four nine-hour days and one four-hour day. A flexible work schedule gives employees the opportunity to vary their arrival, departure and meal times for the workday. Employees can also work from home when the need arises.
