Employer Profile

No. 44
Medtronic Inc.
Minneapolis, Minn. [North Central]
Why You Want to Work There
The majority of this medical technology firm's U.S. IT employees work in a brand-new facility in Mounds View, Minn. -- and they aren't lacking for perks. On-site amenities include automotive services such as oil changes, tire rotations and car washes. The company also offers dry cleaning, clothing alteration, package-shipping, prescription pickup, errand-running and party-planning services. The campus boasts a U.S. bank with tellers, a Bon Appetit restaurant, Caribou Coffee service and a recreation area with a gas fireplace and ping-pong tables. The office areas feature flexible work rooms and "hoteling" work spaces. Employees can receive health screenings, take advantage of the services of on-site wellness coaches, nutritionists and massage therapists, and use a wellness center staffed with trained fitness professionals. On top of all of that, the campus features outdoor walking and running paths. The office lighting system uses advanced T8 technology and is 22% more efficient than standard office T8 designs, saving 800 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year. To minimize the need for artificial lighting, workspaces are oriented to allow for maximum use of natural light. The supply of fresh air is controlled by indoor air quality sensors that adjust automatically. Wherever possible, materials with recycled content were used in the construction of the new facility.
