Why You Want to Work There
Top 10 ranking: No. 3 for career development, No. 10 for retention, No. 4 for benefits A juicy new perk this year for IT workers at this U.S. defense contractor, based in Waltham, Mass., is the IT Advanced Study program, which provides IT employees with the means to obtain a master's-level education through formal academic programs by covering tuition, mandatory fees and books. To be eligible, employees must be accepted, without conditions, to an accredited graduate school approved by the company. Those selected for the program are called Raytheon Scholars and receive distinction both during and after the program. Scholars can obtain master's of science or MBA degrees. A long-standing perk is the company's commitment to flexibility -- in work schedule, family support programs, benefits, learning opportunities or job positions. Flexible scheduling provides for a variety of work options, such as working at home or at alternate locations one to five days a week or working part-time schedules. And, it's not just schedules that are flexible. Benefits options include backup child care and a wide range of elder care options.
