100 Best Places to Work in IT 2009

Employer Profile

No. 12
Marriott International Inc.
Bethesda, Md. [South Atlantic]
Why You Want to Work There
Top 10 ranking: No. 9 for training If a company is a great place to work, its employees generally stay put. And at this Washington-based hotelier, long tenure and low turnover abound. In 2008, the IT unit had a voluntary turnover rate of just 6.9%, and the average tenure of its IT employees was 10 years. Says Alice Rodriguez, senior programmer/analyst: "After 30 years, I still look forward to coming to work because my team is great to work with. We each have our individual assignments, but everyone instinctively pulls together when the need arises." In an internal employee opinion poll, 90% of workers said they were proud to work for Marriott and 89% said that they wouldn't hesitate to recommend Marriott as a place to work. Each month, a few outstanding IT workers are honored for exhibiting one of the company's core operating values and are recognized with a $100 Marriott gift check, a certificate and a crystal plaque.
