Why You Want to Work There
Employees asked for a change -- and got one. In 2007, Palmetto Health made a major change to its merit-based salary increase process. For the past 10 years, a 3% increase across the board had been given to employees who weren't under disciplinary action. Now, employees who score well on standards of integrity, compassion, excellence, dignity and teamwork, and on an evaluation of their individual job responsibilities, can receive a merit increase of up to 6%. The organization hovers around the 2% profit margin; putting together a merit package in excess of $1 million was the company's way of showing employees that they are valued and that high performers will be recognized and rewarded for their efforts.
