Why You Want to Work There
The "Purple Pipeline" program was designed to strengthen the leadership skills of managers, break down organizational silos, spread best practices and create opportunities for career advancement. Five of the first-year participants were promoted to director, and two have been hired into new management positions. The new managers were helped by the job rotation component of the program. Because of the pilot's success, a second class began in 2007 with 17 IT managers -- nominated by their directors, vice presidents and senior vice presidents. The program's four components are assessment of strengths, development and coaching, job rotations and what's known as a "capstone" exercise, in which the participants showcase the skills they've learned by working on a strategic project identified by IT management.
