French software maker Business Objects SA announced an agreement July 9 to acquire Acta Technology Inc. for close to $65 million, with plans to join the two companies' data analysis software products.
Mountain View, Calif.-based Acta sells software for collecting and organizing data from a variety of systems, including enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management applications.
In a statement, Business Objects said Acta's technology should complement its own products for churning through and organizing large databases. It plans to include the Acta technology with current and future products, releasing the first combined software in the third quarter of this year, the company said.
Business Objects will pay close to $65 million in cash for all of Acta's shares. The deal has been approved by both companies' boards of directors and is expected to close in the third quarter of this year, Business Objects said in the statement. The deal must still receive standard regulatory approvals.
Some members of Acta's engineering, sales, service and marketing teams are expected to join Business Objects if the deal is approved. Acta's customers include Nortel Networks Corp., Maxtor Corp. and Shell Oil Co., the companies said.
