Android remote access app shootout

There are times when accessing another computer remotely can be convenient -- to check on the status of a download or code that is being compiled, to start or stop an application, or to load a document to view it. It can be really helpful to be able to do this from a smartphone or tablet. We tested three services that let you use your Android device to connect to your computer remotely.

Unified communications still fragmented

The technology may get a big push from mobile adoption, but integration among multiple UC components is still a tough slog.

Organize videos by groups in iTunes

In iTunes, there are two ways to categorize your videos: as either Movies or TV Shows. Movies are displayed individually, but TV shows are organized in groups, as they would be if they were episodes in the same show. One anonymous Mac OS X Hints reader takes advantage of this to organize all kinds of videos, regardless of their actual source. He uses his Movies library for very large files and puts everything else in TV Shows. So, for example, in his TV Shows library, he has groups called YouTube Videos, Home Videos, Work Stuff, and so on.

Embracing mobile site visitors: Early detection is best

When you think about your company's websites -- whether internal or customer-facing -- you most likely picture the sites rendered on a computer screen, the environment Web development teams typically target. But there are more than 4 billion mobile phones in use worldwide, more than the total number of TVs and PCs combined, and that doesn't even include tablets. The reality today is your websites are being visited by people using hundreds of kinds of devices, the vast majority of which are mobile.

Anonymizer Universal Shields You From Content-Targeting

When you browse the Web, you are constantly being tracked. It's not personal: It's marketing. Website owners and ad networks want to learn as much as they can about you, so they can target their content and ads effectively. After all, there's not much use in showing ads for anti-aging products to a sixteen-year-old. That said, not all users appreciate being tracked so meticulously, and this is where Anonymizer Universal and other VPN applications come in.
