SAP to resell Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters

German enterprise software provider SAP AG will resell and distribute Oracle Corp.'s Oracle9i Database with Real Application Clusters (Oracle9i RAC) under the terms of a three-year deal, the companies announced Wednesday at the Oracle World trade show in Copenhagen.
Database software maker Oracle and SAP will both provide support to joint customers, they said in a statement.
The SAP software using Oracle9i RAC will be available within six months for SAP customers using Hewlett-Packard Co.'s HP AlphaServer systems running Tru64 Unix, the companies said. Some pilot projects have already been launched with customers who can't yet be named, Oracle and SAP said.
More than two-thirds of SAP's customers currently run their applications over Oracle database software, the companies said.
In benchmark tests, SAP R/3 Release 4.6C applications and Oracle9i RAC were run alongside a sales and distribution applications workload over a four-node clustered HP AlphaServer ES45 system using TruCluster Server software with four processors per system, the companies said.
The additional nodes used in Oracle's next-generation cluster technology allowed for server consolidation while increasing performance, Oracle and SAP said. As a result, SAP said it believes its customers will achieve lower costs, higher scalability and improved reliability using the SAP/Oracle9i RAC package.
