Borland acquires consultancy TeraQuest Metrics

January 19, 2005 12:00 PM ET

IDG News Service - Borland Software Corp. has acquired TeraQuest Metrics Inc., a consulting firm in Austin that specializes in helping companies improve processes for application development, workforce management and operations, Borland announced Tuesday.

TeraQuest developed Capability Maturity Models, which are guides for process improvement and establish standards for measuring the capabilities of software companies.

Details of the acquisition, including financial information, were not disclosed. Borland did say that "as a retention mechanism," it will issue shares of restricted stock and options allowing TeraQuest employees to purchase Borland common stock.

TeraQuest will become part of Borland's worldwide services organization as part of the deal. Bill Curtis, TeraQuest co-founder and chief scientist, has been named chief process officer at Borland. That is a new position and will entail Curtis working with Borland's services and research and development teams, using TeraQuest's process expertise in Borland's product development and implementation.

Borland, based in Scotts Valley, Calif., offers software and services related to software development and implementation processes.
