Wavelink unveils integrated wireless management, security software
The software supports mobile devices such as industrial terminals, handhelds and laptops
Computerworld - Wavelink Corp. this week announced Wavelink Managed Security, software the company said is designed for integrated wireless LAN management and protection.
The product provides security for older 802.11-based Wi-Fi and newer wireless LANs that are compliant with the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) standard. It also supports a variety of mobile devices, such as industrial terminals, handhelds and laptops, said Dave Bullis president of Kirkland, Wash.-based Wavelink.
Wavelink Managed Security allows a company to centrally deploy WPA client software and policies across multiple sites without having to physically touch the devices. It also supports a range of major authentication standards.
Steve Broadhead, business applications development supervisor at R.C. Willey Home Furnishings in Salt Lake City, is testing the new release to see if it can help secure back-office applications used on older bar code scanning handhelds and newer handhelds, as well as with laptops used by corporate executives. "That way we have a single solution," he said.
Wavelink Managed Security comprises separate components that include Mobile Manager Enterprise, which starts at $9,750 for 25 wireless network devices and 25 device licenses, as well as Mobile Manager Authentication Server, which starts at $1,395 for 25 concurrent users.
The new release interoperates with the Odyssey client from Funk Software Inc., Wavelink officials said.
