Apple posts new Power Mac G5 Uniprocessor firmware update
Macworld -
Apple Computer Inc. has released Power Mac G5 Uniprocessor Firmware Update 5.1.5f2, a new release aimed at Power Mac G5s that have only a single processor. The update apparently corrects "unexpected issues" that have appeared on some Power Mac G5s after the first uniprocessor update, released earlier this month, was applied.
Apple describes such "unexpected issues" as a possible "kernel panic, the loss of USB function with some keyboards or mouse tracking devices, Bluetooth USB modules that don't respond five minutes after starting up, or interrupted audio playback in iTunes. Disconnecting and reconnecting devices does not help."
Apple has posted some details about the issue on its online support database.
Apple advises users whose single-processor Power Mac G5s display these symptoms to remove any third-party RAM from their Power Mac G5, run the new Firmware Updater, then reinstall their third-party RAM.
More details are available on the Apple Web page.
